| Artist Statement Renecia B. Cullier, contemporary, abstract artist. Celebrating life’s journey, the state of refinement and the
realization of being one of God’s masterpieces...a perfect mess. My paintings are a personal exploration of my life visually communicated in an abstract form. They are a journey
of orderly chaos, materialized from paths of self-discovery, emotions, faith and imagination...a state of refining.
I believe my art is relative to everyday human life. Someone, somewhere can relate to the experiences I reveal with
the strokes of my brush. Through the use of bold colors, broad strokes and textures I put an interesting twist on
real life situations. The process is a subconscious dialogue between the canvas and my inner thoughts and feelings.
It seems that God is using my experiences and imperfections as a visual testimony and a way for me to connect with people.
A constant flow of ideas and my short attention-span, result in my paintings being created in one sitting. The art
appears raw and emotional–much deeper than design.
I realize that we all are works of art...God’s masterpieces. I am constantly changing and developing into the person He
would have me to be. Hence is the name of my gallery, Refine. Refine Art is based on the emotional highs and lows I
endured during my spiritual awakening which peaked in 1998, after years of feeling like I was just going through the
motions of everyday life. Even though I was surrounded by my family and friends, my life seemed empty and meaningless
I couldn't do the things I wanted to do. I felt burdened and hopeless of having a life that meant more to 'me'. Over time,
I realized that there were dream killers in the midst of my life. In order for things to change, I had to learn to be strong
to withstand their negative energy, be open to change, and step out on faith with God at the center of my life. Upon ridding
myself of those toxic people, situations and things, I’ve acquired a new life with a completely different perspective!
